GUADALUPE VALLEY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE
western operations center
In 2007, Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative’s (GVEC) commissioned TSG Architects to design their new Western Operations Center complex. Off a prominent location on I-10 near Seguin the project was completed in 2011. The projects scope included a high-tech 16,000sf operations building including a large meeting room and satellite NOCC area, a 65,000sf warehouse with “open” dock area and covered truck parking, a 25,000sf transportation building, and a 4,500sf truck wash. The complex makes a proud statement on Interstate Highway 10 and seeing a great opportunity for this high profile project, TSG suggested GVEC consider pursuing LEED Certification in which GVEC embraced. The design team exceeded the original goal of a Silver rating and attained LEED Gold through innovative techniques during construction with the assistance of the general contractor, SpawGlass. Sustainability techniques include PV panels, daylighting, thermal occupant controls, recycled content materials, an outdoor educational area. This award winning project received both the 2011 Excellence in Construction award, and the 2012 SAMCA Golden Trowel Design Award.
