Gonzales Independent School District’s (GISD) new Gonzales Primary Academy (GPA) was the main project of five separate individual projects of the 2013-2016 bond program. The old downtown HEB grocery store in Gonzales moved to a larger location, leaving a large, vacant shell. GISD purchased the old building and commissioned TSG to transform this empty box and surrounding area into a kindergarten pre-school campus, and the end result is a very remarkable and beautiful transformation. Just under 50,000 total sf including a 24,000sf addition, the shell of the original grocery store was completely re-purposed, which is an excellent example of adaptive reuse. The award winning school includes large pre-k and 1st grade classrooms, a large multi-use cafeteria and play area, large commercial kitchen, a library, music room, computer lab room, and an administration area. The new campus also includes two large outdoor play areas with playscapes. The project won the 2016 Texas Downtown Association Award for best Renovation Design!
